Yummy Hits Pure Miami
todayJune 5, 2025
Miami Beach is vibing with the idea of finally having a quick, car-free connection to the mainland β and the receipts are in. According to a new county-funded poll, locals are all aboard the Metromover extensionβ¦ even if the city is throwing some side-eye. π
π The numbers donβt lie:
β 79% of Beach residents want a mass transit link to the mainland
β 67% of those who know about the proposal strongly support it
β 65% say theyβd actually use the Metromover if it existed
That’s not just support β thatβs main character energy for public transit. π
Even with all this love from the people, city officials are still saying βhmm, not so fast.β Theyβve raised concerns about:
β οΈ Zoning drama
ποΈ Impacts on historic neighborhoods
π§ Construction headaches
π° Big olβ price tag
Basically: politics and paperwork. π
The proposed route would take the Metromover from Downtown Miami to 5th Street in South Beach, cruising across the MacArthur Causeway. It sounds like a dream for locals who are done with traffic and just want to brunch on both sides of the bay without melting in their car.
But here’s the catch β the project is delayed, still tangled in red tape, and not happening anytime soon. Boo.
Miami Beach residents are ready to β¨rideβ¨, but city leaders arenβt sold just yet. Until then, weβll be stuck in bumper-to-bumper wondering what couldβve been.
ππ Manifesting Metromover mood boards in the meantime.
