Big news for South Dade commuters. Metro Express, Miami-Dade’s first fully electric Bus Rapid Transit (BRT)system, is officially rolling out this month. Launching on Oct. 27, this next-gen transit system is set to make travel faster, greener, and way more convenient for everyone along the route.

The 20-mile route runs from Florida City to Dadeland South, cruising along U.S. 1 with dedicated lanes that are protected by safety barriers and given priority during rush-hour traffic. That means less time stuck in congestion and more time getting where you need to go.

This isn’t your average bus ride. The system features 100% electric buses, delivering zero emissions and quiet rides, plus 14 climate-controlled stations equipped with Wi-Fi, charging ports, and water refill stations. The pay-before-boarding system keeps trips smooth and speedy, while cyclists will love the bicycle access, parking, and shaded waiting areas at each station.

The $100 million project is funded by Miami-Dade, FDOT, and the FTA, and officials say it represents a new era for public transit. Beyond just commuting, Metro Express is designed to connect communities to jobs, schools, parks, and shopping hubs, while setting a nationwide sustainability benchmark.

📍 Opening ceremony: Oct. 22
🚦 Service starts: Oct. 27

South Dade, it’s time to hop on board and ride clean. This is public transit, upgraded.
