Yummy Hits Pure Miami
In a festive and community-focused initiative, Florida Power & Light (FPL) is giving away 200 free Christmas trees and sets of LED lights to Miami-Dade residents to help make the holiday season brighter and more energy-efficient.
FPL’s initiative goes beyond just handing out holiday staples; it emphasizes winter energy conservation. The utility will have representatives on-site sharing practical tips on managing energy costs during the holidays, specifically highlighting the benefits of using LED lighting and adopting smart energy habits around the home. The event also supports a vital community resource. The Christmas tree lot has been a longtime partner of the Boys & Girls Clubs, with proceeds funding essential youth programs such as STEM education, arts, tutoring, and mentorship. Furthermore, FPL is promoting its “Holiday House of Savings,” an interactive online tool designed to teach energy-efficient practices. Every time a user engages with the tool, FPL generates a donation to its electrical assistance program, further helping customers in need manage their energy expenses.
The distribution event is scheduled to take place at the Boys & Girls Clubs of Miami-Dade’s Christmas Tree Lot in Coconut Grove.
When: The line opens at 4 PM, and the distribution runs from 5 PM to 7 PM, or until the 200-household limit is reached.
What: Each household will receive a five-foot Christmas tree and a set of energy-saving LED lights.
FPL stated that this program is part of a broader commitment to assist customers in managing their energy usage and costs throughout the holiday period. This type of utility-led giveaway of essential holiday items raises the question of whether similar community support programs will become a more common way for power companies to engage with and aid local residents in the future.
