Taylor Swift’s devoted Swifties, are renowned for their unwavering passion and dedication, often going to great lengths to attend her live concerts.
One Swiftie, named Tamara Gray, was en route to Taylor Swift’s concert in Sydney, Australia at Accor Stadium on Friday, February 23rd, when she received a life-changing call. The 35-year-old mother was informed that a kidney was available for her transplant. Despite her excitement for the concert, Gray faced a difficult decision between witnessing Swift perform live and receiving a life-saving organ.
Recalling the moment, Gray shared, “I got a call from the hospital saying they had a kidney,” adding, “I won’t lie, there was a split second that I considered saying no to the kidney but, you know, I’m not crazy.” Gray believed it was fate, as the call came just 10 minutes after her original flight was scheduled to depart from Gold Coast Airport to Sydney, where the concert was being held.
Gray’s autoimmune disease, IgA nephropathy, had necessitated 15 hours of dialysis per week prior to the transplant, as it targeted her kidneys. Despite missing the concert, her friends attended on her behalf. However, Gray remains optimistic, saying, “Now that I can travel after I’ve had a transplant, my friend said ‘well we’ll just go see her in Europe or something.'”
Ultimately, Gray’s story concludes with a hopeful outcome on both fronts, with her receiving the life-saving transplant and the possibility of attending Swift’s future concerts.
