Billie Eilish’s third album is now officially completed. The singer subtly shared the news on Instagram, captioning a carousel of photos with “my album is mastered.” The images depict Eilish wearing a skeleton shirt, black jacket, and star-patterned baklava.

Eilish has been hinting at the project’s progress for over a year, and in December, she revealed that it was “almost done.”

Despite not releasing an album in 2023, Eilish received two Grammys for her single “What Was I Made For?”, including Song of the Year. The track also won a Golden Globe and is nominated for an Oscar. Throughout the past year, Eilish and FINNEAS have discussed the challenges they encountered while creating this album. “I don’t think Billie was particularly sure about how she actually felt about the things we were trying to write about,” FINNEAS explained in a late-year interview. “Making a thing that you feel really connected to – it can really evade you.”

FINNEAS also confessed that his songwriting skills “got a little rusty” after spending extensive time on the road, both with Eilish and as a solo artist. “And that was scary,” he admitted. “It was discouraging to realize that if I take time off, my songwriting muscle atrophies. I had to get back in shape.”

During the summer, Eilish shared insights into how the creative process differed this time around. “Everything is different about it,” she acknowledged. “I’ve been trying to compare recently, just because I’m getting used to doing it in a different way. And trying to be like, ‘It’s OK to do that. I’m OK. I’m still able to do that; I’m capable still.’”

She continued, reflecting on the impact of touring for an extended period before returning to the studio. “Just mentally and physically, and realistically. It’s just been completely different.”

Eilish also elaborated on the specific changes she experienced. “The way that I exist in the room is different, my voice has completely changed since then…The voice-changing thing is a trip! It’s all kind of shocking,” she remarked. “I’ve gotten a little bit more like, ‘OK, it’s just change and I’m figuring that out.’ It’s hard to accept change, it’s hard to get over, ‘But I did it this way for so long, and it worked so well!’ Well, you can’t anymore.”
