During Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour, researchers at the California Institute of Technology observed earthquake-like signals generated by approximately 70,000 fans at SoFi Stadium in Los Angeles on August 5, 2023. The team placed motion sensors inside and around the stadium, recording vibrations during 43 out of the 45 songs performed. They concluded that the main cause of the tremors was the movement of the crowd rather than the instruments or the speaker system.

The study identified the top five songs that triggered the most energetic signals from enthusiastic Swifties during her Eras Tour. “Shake It Off” led the pack with a local magnitude of 0.851, closely followed by “You Belong With Me” at 0.849. “Love Story” came in third at 0.800, followed by “Cruel Summer” at 0.741, and “22” rounding out the list at 0.645.

This isn’t the first time Swift’s Eras Tour shows have caused earthquake-like signals. In July, her performances at Lumen Field in Seattle also reportedly induced seismic activity, prompting the publication of a new study in Seismological Research Letters.
