Yummy Hits Pure Miami

So, here’s a Halloween plot twist we didn’t see coming: ET, our favorite extraterrestrial buddy from the ’80s, is somehow the it costume of 2024. It all started with Janelle Monáe, who, like, went all out with an ET photoshoot that could be a straight-up Vogue spread. She didn’t just throw on some big eyes and call it a day—no, she embodied every single ET vibe, from the cute to the iconic, in an entire character arc. And when Janelle Monáe goes for it, you know it’s gonna be iconic.
Cut to the next day, and boom, Heidi Klum pops up as ET too! She’s known for over-the-top Halloween looks (remember her worm costume?), but she cranked it up to 11 this year. Her ET is giving us techy, high-fashion vibes, with some next level additions: it’s remote-controlled, she’s got a diaper on, and, somehow, it’s partially made of human hair? Yeah, not sure what’s more wild—the costume itself or the fact that it’s got an entire NYT article dedicated to it. Classic Heidi.
The real mind-blower here is the timing. Did these two literally plan this together? Like, do they have a Halloween group chat where they coordinated their “ET but make it high fashion” concept? Because for two fashion and pop culture legends to both land on ET, and nail it in completely different ways, is a Halloween miracle.
In a year when we could’ve predicted Barbie or even Oppenheimer as the costume champs, ET feels niche and vintage yet somehow…perfectly relevant. Both Heidi and Janelle took it from a 1980s nostalgia trip to a high-concept work of art. It’s amazing how they made ET both similar and distinct; Janelle’s version was dreamy and cinematic, while Heidi’s feels like something you’d see on a sci-fi runway.
Fashion verdict? ET is now, officially, a fashion icon (yes, we said it). And 2024 Halloween is officially owned by two legends turning an ‘80s alien into the chicest look of the year. Pop culture magic, honestly.
