So, Barry Keoghan is finally clapping back at all the comments calling him a âdeadbeat dadâ since he started dating Sabrina Carpenter. Yep, the rumors have been flying, and Barry decided to address it head-on during a podcast episode that just dropped today. Hereâs what he had to say:
âPeople kind of have a judgment on me as a parent, and I’m like, well, until you’ve walked a day in my shoes growing up as a kid, then you can comment,” Barry shared, not holding back. “Thereâs a lot online I didnât have. If I didnât have tough skin or the strength, I wouldnât be sitting here. Of course, it’s going to affect me being a father. When I had no blueprint to take from, people just read that as laziness and go, âOh, thatâs no excuse for being an absent father.â But Iâm not an absent father.â
Barry went on to explain that as heâs gotten more attention (especially since dating Sabrina), heâs chosen to keep his son out of the spotlight, and heâs done it with intention. âThe more attention I’ve gotten lately and the more in the public Iâve become, the less I post about my child because I donât think itâs fair to put my child online. There are sick people out there,â he said. âBecause I reign that in, people draw narratives and go, âabsent father,â âdeadbeat dad,â and more disgusting things I wonât even repeat. The audacity of some people, man. It sickens me. It makes me furious.â
Before all this, Barry used to post with his son pretty often. But as his fame skyrocketed, he decided to pull back on sharing those moments. The media and fans were quick to jump to conclusions, assuming he was, like, distancing himself from his sonâespecially with all eyes on his relationship with Sabrina. But from what heâs saying, itâs the complete opposite. Heâs protecting his son by not putting him out there.
Theyâve been dating for about eight months now, and in that time, Barryâs social media approach has changed. I mean, heâs choosing privacy, and honestly, itâs his right as a parent. Some people just take whateverâs online, run with it, and build this narrative without knowing the whole picture. Itâs a tough call because fans want a peek, but at the end of the day, itâs his family and his choice.
