Yummy Hits Pure Miami

Camila Cabello is getting real about her so-called “loser” era, and let’s just say… it’s super relatable.
While chatting with Dave Grutman at the Tribeca Festival at Art Basel Miami Beach on December 7, the “Havana” queen spilled the tea on why she didn’t think she was cool as a teen. Spoiler alert: it all comes down to her obsession with music and singing along to YouTube videos instead of hitting up parties. Same, girl, same.
“We were total losers,” the 27-year-old singer said, referring to her squad of fellow music lovers. “We did not go to parties, we did not hang out with people. I was in my room singing and putting on YouTube instrumentals and watching videos of my favorite musicians and artists.”
Now, this “I Luv It” hitmaker might’ve been a self-proclaimed loser back then, but it turns out that obsession led her straight to superstardom. Camila’s drive and passion landed her on The X Factor at just 15, which then launched her into Fifth Harmony fame. Fast forward to now, and she’s four solo albums deep—including her latest, C,XOXO, which dropped this June.
When it comes to her newest project, Camila shared how she balanced pushing creative boundaries without totally throwing fans off. “Change feels so natural for me… but maybe not alienating people,” she explained. “This album was also really special because I don’t feel like people knew I was a Miami girl. People resonated with the little Miami things I put in that album.”
Honestly, we’re just vibing with how authentic Camila is about her journey. From her YouTube karaoke days to sprinkling Miami flavor into her music, she’s proof that sometimes the “loser” days set the stage for major wins. Keep slaying, Camila! 💅
