Yummy Hits Pure Miami
todayMarch 26, 2025
Miami summers are already brutal, but a new study from the University of Miami just dropped a wild (and slightly terrifying) fact—some homes in Miami-Dade are actually hotter inside than they are outside. 🥵🏡
Researchers tracked temps in 57 homes, mostly in low- and middle-income areas, and found that even though most had AC units, many families couldn’t afford to run them or get them fixed when they broke. The result? Indoor temps so extreme that researchers had to call some residents to warn them it was unsafe to stay inside.
To keep power bills from skyrocketing, some families reported cutting back on:

🚫 Medicine
🚫 Car repairs
Yeah, you read that right—people are literally choosing between eating and turning on the AC. And with Miami’s heat only getting worse, this problem isn’t going away.
There are programs to help, like federal bill assistance and local energy efficiency programs, but researchers say it’s not enough to keep up with rising temps and electricity costs.
So while we’re all out here sweating in the Miami heat, let’s not forget—some people don’t even have the option to cool down. It’s giving climate crisis. 🌎🔥
