Big news out of the courtroom: Sean “Diddy” Combs has been sentenced to 50 months in prison following his conviction on prostitution charges. The ruling came Friday, October 3, from Judge Arun Subramanian, who decided that the prosecution’s request for 11 years was too harsh, while the defense’s plea for 14 months was too lenient.
During the hearing, the judge weighed all the evidence and said, “Here, the data shows a wide variety of sentences… Weighing all the relevant factors, the Court determines that the sentence is 50 months of incarceration.” Diddy’s family, friends, and attorneys spoke on his behalf, highlighting his character and asking for leniency, but the court ultimately sided with the seriousness of the charges.
Federal prosecutors argued that Diddy inflicted “life-changing” abuse on his victims and pointed to violent incidents involving former girlfriends, including Casandra “Cassie” Ventura. They claimed Diddy knew his actions were illegal and even asked escorts if they were undercover cops, alleging he downplayed his behavior in psychiatric interviews.
Diddy’s defense, on the other hand, said he did not profit from his parties with escorts and noted that his conviction didn’t align with other Mann Act cases. They also highlighted that he’s undergone therapy and enrolled in the STOP program, which is designed to prevent domestic abuse, sexual assault, and other dating violence.
In the weeks leading up to sentencing, letters of support poured in from family, friends, and even some former partners. Yung Miami of City Girls called him “a good man,” while one ex-girlfriend claimed she was pressured by the prosecution to feel like a victim, even though she did not feel that way.
Diddy has been in custody at the Metropolitan Detention Center in Brooklyn since his arrest last September. Bail was denied multiple times before and after the trial. With this sentencing, the music mogul faces over four years behind bars, marking a major turning point in the life of one of hip-hop’s most iconic figures.
