Heads up, ice cream fans — Publix is recalling a specific lot of its ice cream after discovering it may contain an undeclared egg allergen.

The recall affects half-gallon containers of Publix Rich & Creamy Vanilla Ice Cream (UPC 41415 03043) with a sell-by date of June 19, 2026 A. The issue? Some containers may actually contain French Vanilla Ice Cream but have a mismatched lid, which could be dangerous for anyone with an egg allergy or severe sensitivity.

This lot was sold in Publix stores across Florida, Alabama, Georgia, Kentucky, South Carolina, and Tennessee — though stores in Jacksonville, Tallahassee, Tampa, and Sarasota are not affected. Publix locations in Virginia and North Carolina are also unaffected.

Publix is taking the matter seriously. “As part of our commitment to food safety, potentially impacted product has been removed from all store shelves,” said Maria Brous, Publix Director of Communications. Thankfully, no illnesses have been reported so far.

If you purchased the affected ice cream, you can return it to any Publix store for a full refund. For more info, contact Publix Customer Care at 1-800-242-1227 or visit publix.com.

Moral of the story? Always double-check your ice cream lids — especially if eggs are a no-go for you! 🍨
