Singer-songwriter Dean Lewis, best known for his global hits “Be Alright” and “Waves,” has issued a public apology following a surge of social media allegations detailing inappropriate behavior with fans. Multiple women took to platforms like TikTok and Instagram to share accounts, screenshots, and recordings of what they claimed were flirtatious and intimate interactions that left them feeling uncomfortable.
The allegations, which surfaced in recent weeks, focused on private communications between the 38-year-old artist and his adult fanbase. One fan described a particularly unsettling interaction where, after she expressed disinterest in a sexual relationship, Lewis allegedly asked, “Do you want to make me happy?”—an exchange she said made her feel profoundly uneasy.
In a detailed statement posted to his Instagram account, Lewis acknowledged the claims:
“I understand why people are angry and disappointed after learning embarrassing details of intimate, private conversations and relationships I’ve had with consenting adults over the past decade, but I want to emphasize that none of this is illegal.”
Lewis admitted to engaging in “dumb flirty texts” and conceded that some of these interactions escalated to consensual intimate encounters that he had mistakenly believed would remain private.
While denying any illegal wrongdoing, the singer admitted that his actions hurt people and that he lacked the necessary sensitivity regarding the power dynamic of his fame.
“I was breathtakingly dumb texting and flirting… I should have been more sensitive that not everyone might look at our interactions the way I often did,” Lewis stated in his post. He maintained that “none of this is illegal,” emphasizing that all the interactions involved consenting adults.
Lewis concluded his statement by announcing plans for significant personal change, pledging to undergo “intense therapy” to dramatically shift his approach to relationships and implement new boundaries with his fans.
“From the bottom of my heart, I want to sincerely apologize to those I’ve hurt… I know it’s too much to ask for grace and forgiveness at this moment, but in time I hope to re-earn the trust of those I’ve disappointed,” he wrote to his family and supporters.
