Katy Perry is giving fans an intimate look at her romantic struggles with the release of her vulnerable new single, “Bandaids,” which dropped on Thursday (November 6).
The track, first teased earlier in the week, marks Perry’s first new music since her sixth studio album, 143, was released in September 2024. “Bandaids” details the singer’s exhaustive efforts to keep a troubled relationship afloat.
The emotional pre-chorus reveals the pain of persistent disappointment: “Got so used to you letting me down/ No use trying to send flowers now/ Telling myself you’ll change, you don’t/ Bandaids over a broken heart.”
Perry later sings about the relationship having “too many splinters” and “flatlining trying to save this” once it “fizzled out.” Despite the collapse, she expresses a willingness to “do it all over again” because “the love we made was worth it in the end.” The release was accompanied by a cinematic music video directed by Christian Breslauer. The visuals feature Perry enduring a series of Final Destination-style near-death experiences, emerging bruised but alive—or at least seemingly so.
“Bandaids” appears to address the recent split from her longtime partner and former fiancé, Orlando Bloom. The couple, who share 5-year-old daughter Daisy Dove, separated this summer but have maintained a supportive co-parenting relationship in the months since.
