The woman at the center of one of the summer’s most awkward viral moments is finally speaking out.
Kristin Cabot, a former Astronomer executive who resigned after being caught on a Coldplay kiss cam with her boss, has broken her silence in a new interview with The New York Times. The incident, which unfolded at a Coldplay concert in July, quickly exploded online and turned a fleeting stadium moment into a full-blown internet spectacle.
“I made a bad decision and had a couple of High Noons and danced and acted inappropriately with my boss,” Cabot, 53, admitted. She described former Astronomer CEO Andy Byron as her “big happy crush,” acknowledging that the interaction crossed professional and personal boundaries.
“And it’s not nothing,” she continued. “I took accountability and I gave up my career for that. That’s the price I chose to pay.” Cabot said the viral fallout left her feeling like a “meme” and ultimately “unemployable.”

The now-infamous clip shows Cabot and Byron panicking as they appeared on the venue’s kiss cam. Byron, who was married at the time, immediately pulled away and ducked behind a barrier, while Cabot covered her face in embarrassment. Unaware of the situation, Coldplay frontman Chris Martin quipped to the crowd, “Oh, what, either they’re having an affair or they’re very shy,” a line that only fueled the internet frenzy.
The consequences were swift. Cabot resigned from her role shortly after the incident, and Byron stepped down as CEO days later on July 19. In a statement, Astronomer emphasized its commitment to leadership accountability, saying its standards “were not met.”
“While awareness of our company may have changed overnight, our product and our work for our customers have not,” the company added, noting that cofounder and Chief Product Officer Pete DeJoy would serve as interim CEO while a search for a permanent replacement begins.
Additional context emerged in the months that followed. In September, a spokesperson for Cabot’s estranged husband confirmed that the couple had already been living separate lives at the time of the concert. Although divorce papers were filed weeks after the incident, the decision to separate was reportedly already in motion.
Cabot had only held her executive position for nine months. On her LinkedIn profile, she described herself as someone who “wins trust with employees of all levels,” a reputation now complicated by a moment she says will follow her forever.
What began as a few seconds on a stadium screen became a cautionary tale about public scrutiny, workplace boundaries, and how quickly a private mistake can turn into a viral headline in the age of smartphones and memes.
