Miley Cyrus is entering her “Bride Era,” but don’t expect her to start acting like a typical Pinterest-board princess. The 33-year-old Something Beautiful singer stepped out at the Palm Springs International Film Festival Awards this past Saturday, looking radiant and—more importantly—dropping some majorly relatable truth bombs about her new status. While she’s clearly head-over-heels for her new fiancé, Liily drummer Maxx Morando, 27, there is one thing she just can’t get behind: the terminology.
In a red carpet chat with Entertainment Tonight, Miley got real about the “F-word.” No, not that one—fiancé. Despite the happy news, Miley admitted she “gets so cringed out” calling Maxx her fiancé. “I’m kind of dorkiest with stuff like that,” she confessed. Honestly? We feel that. Moving from “boyfriend” to the formal, fancy French-rooted “fiancé” feels like a lot of pressure, even for a global rockstar.
While the word might be cringe, the timing is apparently “perfect.” Miley’s latest track, “Dream as One,” is featured on the soundtrack for James Cameron’s Avatar: Fire and Ash, and she sees a deep connection between the film’s themes and her own life. Miley noted that Cameron’s films always put a huge emphasis on relationships, making her current season of life feel “perfectly aligned.”
So to be able to show up joyful and experience love in my own way is just perfectly aligned,” she said. “It just fell into my life at the perfect time. I feel like I’m in a good place to support the message of what this film’s about.”
Rumors of an engagement have been swirling since Miley’s 33rd birthday back in November, when fans spotted a massive diamond sparkler in her Instagram posts. The buzz hit a fever pitch at the Avatar premiere on December 1st, and she finally confirmed the news later that month after four years of dating Maxx. If you’re waiting for a massive, televised celebrity wedding, you might want to lower your expectations. After her previous marriage to Liam Hemsworth, Miley is reportedly leaning toward a more low-key approach.
