In a rare and vulnerable moment that has stunned the entertainment world, Ye (formerly known as Kanye West) took out a full-page advertisement in the Wall Street Journal on Monday, January 26, 2026. Titled “To Those I’ve Hurt,” the open letter serves as a comprehensive apology for his history of antisemitic rhetoric, extremist imagery, and volatile public behavior.

The letter marks a significant shift for the artist, who for years had largely doubled down on his controversial statements. In the note, Ye attributes his actions to a “fractured state” caused by undiagnosed medical issues and a severe struggle with Bipolar 1 Disorder.

Ye began the letter by tracing his mental health struggles back to his infamous 2002 car accident. While he was treated for a shattered jaw at the time, he revealed that a serious injury to his right frontal lobe went completely unnoticed for two decades.

  • The Diagnosis: According to Ye, the brain injury wasn’t properly diagnosed until 2023.

  • The Impact: He explains that this medical oversight exacerbated his bipolar disorder, leading to a state of “constant mental illness” where he eventually lost his grip on reality.

  • The “Swastika” Phase: Ye candidly addressed his use of Nazi imagery, stating that in his manic state, he “gravitated toward the most destructive symbol [he] could find.” He expressed deep mortification for selling swastika-themed apparel and releasing the 2025 track “Heil Hitler.”

Addressing the specific communities he targeted, Ye was direct in his disavowal of hate groups.

“I am not a Nazi or an antisemite. I love Jewish people,” he wrote, adding that his “disconnected moments” led to poor judgment that feels like an “out-of-body experience.”

He also issued a heartfelt apology to the Black community, calling it the “unquestionable foundation” of who he is and expressing deep regret for letting down those who had supported him through his darkest times.

e admitted that his life reached a breaking point during a four-month manic episode in early 2025. He revealed that he hit “rock bottom” and struggled with suicidal ideation before his wife, Bianca Censori, encouraged him to seek professional help.

The artist is now reportedly following a strict “effective regime” that includes:

  • Stabilizing medication and therapy.

  • A rehabilitation stay in Switzerland to correct his dosage.

  • A focus on “positive, meaningful art” across music and design.

The apology comes just days before the release of his new album, Bully (scheduled for January 30, 2026). While some critics have questioned if the letter is a strategic PR move, Ye addressed the skepticism in a follow-up interview with Vanity Fair, insisting the apology was born from “remorseful feelings heavy on my heart” rather than a desire to revive his commercial standing.
