A Night of Record-Breaking Queens:

The big story of the night belonged to two of music’s most enduring icons: Taylor Swift and Madonna.

Taylor Swift officially cemented her status as VMA royalty. By taking home Video of the Year for her self-directed visual masterpiece “The Fate of Ophelia,” Swift brought her career total to 33 Moon Persons. This historic win officially pushes her past Beyoncé to become the most-awarded artist in VMA history. To top it off, Swift was also honored with the inaugural Artist Director Honors, a brand-new award celebrating musicians who write and direct their own videos.

Meanwhile, Madonna proved she is still the ultimate Queen of Pop, walking away as the most-awarded artist of the night. Madonna swept up seven trophies, including the coveted Artist of the Year and Best Collaboration for her smash-hit pairing with Sabrina Carpenter on “Bring Your Love.”

Other major highlights included a legendary Video Vanguard Award presentation honoring Nirvana, and Sienna Spiro capturing the spotlight by taking home Best New Artist.
