The Swifties brought an unprecedented level of enthusiasm to Taylor Swift’s latest Eras Tour performance, and their passion had an extraordinary effect – they caused seismic activity! Seismologist Jackie Caplan-Auerbach confirmed that during Swift’s concert at Lumen Field in Seattle, Washington, the fans’ fervor generated seismic activity equivalent to a 2.3 magnitude earthquake.

According to Caplan-Auerbach, the data from both nights of the concert displayed identical patterns of signals, making it clear that the ground-shaking effect was directly linked to the Swifties’ energy. This phenomenon, humorously named the “Swift Quake,” has drawn comparisons to the 2011 “Beast Quake” caused by Seattle Seahawks fans celebrating a touchdown by Marshawn “Beast Mode” Lynch. Remarkably, the same local seismometer detected both the Seahawks game and the Taylor Swift concert.

When asked about the seismic impact, Caplan-Auerbach explained that the shaking was twice as strong as the “Beast Quake.” While the Seahawks’ cheering was intense but short-lived, the continuous rhythmic behavior during Taylor Swift’s concert, driven by the music, speakers, and beat, sustained the ground-shaking for about 10 hours of data collection.

One of CNN’s reporters, Chloe Melas, who attended one of the Seattle shows, validated the seismic readings, stating that the ground beneath her feet was literally shaking, and her ears were still ringing from the experience.

Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour has been unbelievably successful, and her next stop at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara is sure to hold something newsworthy, given the undeniable energy and excitement that her devoted fans bring to every performance.
