Taylor Swift Releases Re-Recorded Version of ‘1989’

On Friday, Taylor Swift unveiled a freshly recorded edition of her monumental album ‘1989,’ which played a pivotal role in solidifying her status as a pop icon. This move is part of her ongoing effort to re-record her older hits and regain control of her music catalog after a significant portion was sold to a private equity firm without her consent.

Swift released ‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ at midnight on Friday, precisely nine years after the album’s original release in 2014. The 21-track album features re-recorded renditions of iconic tracks from the original album, including chart-toppers like “Shake It Off,” “Blank Space,” and “Bad Blood,” which remain among Swift’s most prominent songs.

Notably, the album also introduces five previously unreleased songs from her “vault,” a characteristic she includes in each of her re-recorded albums. These new tracks are titled: “Slut!,” “Is It Over Now?,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Say Don’t Go,” and “Suburban Legends.”

‘1989 (Taylor’s Version)’ marks the fourth release in Swift’s non-chronological schedule of re-recordings. It follows the re-releases of ‘Speak Now’ (originally 2010, re-recorded in 2023), ‘Red’ (2012; 2021), and ‘Fearless’ (2008; 2021). Swift’s dedicated fans, known as Swifties, speculate on the significance of this order.
