Selena Gomez has declared her decision to step back from social media once again. In a recent Instagram Story, Gomez shared a heartfelt message with her fans, expressing her concerns about the current state of the world. She conveyed, “I’ve taken a pause from social media because it truly pains me to witness the multitude of horrors, hatred, violence, and terror prevailing in the world. The suffering, torment, and any form of hate directed towards any group deeply disturb me.” As reported by Billboard, she continued, “We must stand up to safeguard EVERY individual, particularly children, and put an end to violence once and for all.”
The singer went on to express, “I understand that my words may not be enough for everyone or solve the issues with just a hashtag. However, I cannot remain silent while innocent people continue to suffer. It is the unjust suffering of these individuals that deeply troubles me. I wish I could change the world, but a single post cannot accomplish that. With love, Selena.”
Later, Gomez shared a follow-up post on her Instagram Story about three hours later. She wrote, “Having a sister has made me profoundly distraught every day. I would do anything to protect children and innocent lives.”
This isn’t the first instance where the “Single Soon” artist has taken a step back from social media to prioritize her mental well-being. Earlier this year, Gomez opened up about her journey towards honesty with her fanbase regarding her mental health. She explained, “I wanted to start a conversation. I wasn’t ashamed, and I hoped that it would lead to some form of healing.” Gomez further disclosed that she now finds solace in being open about her bipolar diagnosis and is comfortable taking mental health breaks as needed. She emphasized, “I have never made a promise to anyone that I’ll never have a tough day again. I’ve always been candid with my fans. Even when I take breaks from social media, I make it a point to let them know that I’m taking a break.”
