Taylor Swift grieves for a fan in Brazil who passed away on Friday night before the singer’s show in Rio de Janeiro. “I’m in disbelief as I share these words, but it’s with a heavy heart that I announce the loss of a fan earlier tonight before my performance. I’m utterly devastated by this news. I have very limited information, except that she was incredibly beautiful and tragically young,” Swift expressed in a statement shared via an Instagram Story.

“I won’t be addressing this from the stage as the grief is too overwhelming whenever I attempt to speak about it. Right now, I want to convey the depth of my sorrow, and my shattered heart goes out to her family and friends. This is the last thing I expected when we decided to bring this tour to Brazil,” she continued.

Swift refrained from sharing additional specifics regarding the fan’s passing. However, as reported by Brazil’s Folha De S. Paolo, the individual was identified as 23-year-old Ana Clara Benevides, who reportedly succumbed to heat exhaustion amidst extreme temperatures in Rio. The local heat index surpassed a staggering 130 degrees multiple times during the week.

Performing her first of three “Eras Tour” shows in the Brazilian city on Friday, Swift has reached almost the midpoint of her international tour, totaling more than 120 dates. Friday night’s performance marked the 61st show. Following last weekend’s combination of “Is It Over Now? (Taylor’s Version) (From the Vault)” with “Out of the Woods (Taylor’s Version),” fans are eagerly anticipating which surprise songs she’ll present next.
