AC/DC announced the passing of their original drummer, Colin Burgess.

Colin Burgess, the original drummer for the legendary rock band AC/DC, passed away as announced by the group on Saturday. He was 77 years old.

In a tribute shared on social media, the band expressed their sadness at Burgess’s passing, remembering him as their inaugural drummer and a highly respected musician. The message read, “Very sad to hear of the passing of Colin Burgess. He was our first drummer and a very respected musician. Happy memories, rock in peace Colin.”

The cause of his death has not been immediately disclosed.

Hailing from Australia, Burgess was part of the band’s initial lineup alongside lead vocalist Dave Evans, Angus Young, Larry Van Kriedt, and Malcom Young, according to Deadline. He notably played drums on the band’s debut single, “Can I Sit Next To You, Girl?”

In 1973, Burgess became a member of the band and departed the following year.

Prior to joining the rock ensemble, he was associated with an Australian outfit named The Masters Apprentices, as mentioned by the news outlet. Subsequently, he went on to establish the hard rock band, His Majesty.
