Since disclosing her diagnosis of stiff-person syndrome in December 2022, Celine Dion’s health has experienced a decline. Stiff-person syndrome, classified as a rare acquired neurological disorder by the National Organization for Rare Diseases, predominantly affects muscles, leading to stiffness (rigidity) and recurring painful muscle spasms. The condition’s flare-ups can vary, with spasms occurring randomly or triggered by various factors such as sudden noise, light physical contact, or exposure to cold. The severity and advancement of the syndrome differ among individuals, but without proper treatment, it can progress to hinder mobility and impact daily physical functions, potentially causing difficulties in walking.

Claudette, Celine Dion’s sister, spoke to 7 Jours, as reported by Daily Mail, highlighting that the Canadian-born singer is experiencing a lack of control over her muscles. She expressed sorrow over Celine’s situation, emphasizing her sister’s relentless work ethic and discipline throughout her life, as instilled by their mother’s teachings: “She’s always been disciplined…She’s always worked hard. Our mother always told her, ‘You’re going to do it well, you’re going to do it properly.'”

Despite the setback caused by her diagnosis, Celine remains committed to making a comeback to the stage, although the specifics are uncertain. Claudette mentioned, “It’s true that in both our dreams and hers, the goal is to return to the stage. In what capacity? I don’t know.”

Celine personally announced the news of her health struggles in an Instagram video, expressing her initial hesitancy but finally feeling ready to share her challenges. She revealed the profound impact of spasms on her daily life, affecting her ability to walk and sing, which led to the postponement of her European tour.

Over the past few years, Celine, aged 55, has faced significant challenges. Her longtime husband, René Angélil, passed away in 2016 due to cancer at the age of 73. The couple had been married since 1994 and are parents to three sons.
