Trina caused a stir online by labeling Beyoncé as the “top female rapper,” particularly when she engages in rap.

In a HipHopDX interview released on Wednesday, December 27, conducted during the One Music Fest 2023 in Atlanta, Trina shared her thoughts on the surge of successful female rappers in the industry. When prompted about the factors that might have facilitated their recent prominence, she credited Beyoncé.

“She holds the position of the number one female rapper when she chooses to rap,” Trina asserted. “The Queen cannot be underestimated.”

“It’s just one of those things—of course, it’s the Queen Beyoncé. But when you listen to a song and there’s some rapping involved, it’s like, oh my God— it’s more inspirational,” she elaborated. “It’s a positive thing. I believe that when you listen to the girls now and observe them, it’s a diverse range of music, and each one sounds distinct.”

Her perspective on Beyoncé’s impact on women in Hip-Hop quickly circulated across social media. Supporters of other female rappers criticized Trina for not mentioning their favorites, while some humorously teased her for not naming herself. Unfazed by the online debate, the Miami native took to Instagram, standing firm without wavering.

“To all the detractors in the back,” she expressed on her Instagram Story. “Beyoncé is the queen of rap (when she raps) and ALL other genres of music. Now stay upset, I’ve made my statement, and no one will challenge me.”
