The 81st Golden Globes launched the thrilling 2024 awards season last weekend. While the stars’ outfits and dresses stole much of the attention, the spotlight shifted to the intense competition between the year’s top films: Barbie and Oppenheimer. Margot Robbie’s starring role in Barbie earned the film a staggering 9 nominations, making it the second most-nominated film in the history of the award show, closely followed by Oppenheimer with eight nominations.

When you gather hundreds of prominent personalities in one room, it’s a recipe for an abundance of drama—just the kind that keeps us captivated.

Here’s a rundown of the most memorable highlights and low points of the evening!

1. Taylor Swift delivered the standout reaction of the night to a joke at the Golden Globes.

Taylor graced the Golden Globes with her presence as The Eras Tour movie received a nomination in the show’s recently introduced box office recognition category. Host Jo Koy lightened the mood with a jest about the NFL habitually featuring shots of Swift whenever she attends to support Travis Kelce at his Kansas City Chiefs games.

He quipped, “The major contrast between the Golden Globes and the NFL? At the Golden Globes, we get fewer camera shots of Taylor Swift.” The camera then focused on Swift, who appeared unimpressed and casually took a sip of her drink.

2. The most entertaining moments during the ad breaks came courtesy of Timothee Chalamet and Kylie Jenner at the Golden Globes.

Admit it, this couple is starting to win us over (no need to deny it; I know you secretly support them).

Kylie graced the Golden Globes as the plus one accompanying her boyfriend of approximately a year, Timothée, who received a nomination for Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture in the Musical or Comedy category for his portrayal of Willy Wonka in the new Wonka film.

Taking cues from her older sister, Kourtney, Kylie didn’t shy away from showing affection, providing adorable displays of intimacy that the camera couldn’t get enough of during the Golden Globes!

3. Best Red-Carpet Appearance: Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie stole the spotlight on the red carpet once again with a stunning look inspired by “Barbie,” effortlessly recreating a 1977 dress reminiscent of the iconic Mattel doll’s style.

4. Worst Monologue: Jo Koy

From an awkward quip about finding attraction in a plastic Barbie to another regarding the “Killers of the Flower Moon” filmmakers allegedly stealing the plot, Koy’s jokes fell flat and completely missed the mark.
