SZA transports listeners to a distant planet with her latest single. Released on Thursday night, February 22, “Saturn” offers an uplifting journey to a realm where life appears more blissful, as envisioned by SZA. The track was initially unveiled in an exclusive performance a few weeks prior. During the 66th Grammy Awards, SZA captivated audiences with a dynamic set featuring her hits “Kill Bill” and “Snooze.” Following her performance, a recorded set for a MasterCard advertisement aired, featuring the premiere of “Saturn.” Alongside the official release of “Saturn,” SZA also dropped several versions of the song, including a sped-up edition and a live rendition.
“Life’s better on Saturn,” SZA sings, “Got to break this pattern of floating away. Find something worth saving, It’s all for the taking, I always say.”
Produced by SZA herself alongside Carter Lang, Rob Bisel, Solomonophonic, and Monsune, “Saturn” serves as the lead single from SZA’s forthcoming album, “LANA.” Originally intended as the deluxe edition of her critically acclaimed project “SOS,” the album has evolved into its own entity set to be released this year.
Speaking to Variety last year, SZA explained, “It’s outtakes [from ‘SOS’] and new stuff, too — I added a couple of songs. It’s like a whole new project. It’s called Lana — my name but, it’s the first tattoo that I ever got, when I was 13. It was 10 bucks a letter and I only had 40, so that became my nickname for no reason. Lana is really just the B-side of SOS.”
