Cat Janice, the singer-songwriter who gained viral fame on TikTok while battling cancer, has passed away at the age of 31.

Her family announced her passing in a post on her Instagram account on Wednesday (February 28), revealing that she died peacefully surrounded by her loved ones after her courageous battle with cancer.

“This morning, surrounded by her loving family in her childhood home, Catherine peacefully transitioned into the light and love of her heavenly creator,” the post reads.

Cat was diagnosed with sarcoma, a rare form of cancer, in 2022. After undergoing treatment and being declared cancer-free in July of that year, the cancer unfortunately returned, and she entered hospice care earlier this year, according to reports from People magazine.

Cat Janice gained viral fame on TikTok in January with her song “Dance You Outta My Head,” which she referred to as her “last song.” She hoped it would “bring joy and fun,” expressing that it was her ultimate desire throughout her battle with cancer, as reported by Billboard. Janice also made the heartfelt decision to transfer all her songs to her young son Loren’s name, ensuring he would receive all the proceeds to support him after her passing.

In a statement, her family expressed gratitude for the overwhelming love and support received during Catherine’s journey. They acknowledged the unexpected success of her music and reassured fans that her legacy would live on, providing for her son through her art. The family also confirmed that fans can anticipate more of Cat’s art, as per her wishes. Additionally, her Instagram account will be memorialized by her brother, who will oversee her music and merchandise operations.
