Miami honors the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. with one of the country’s most vibrant celebrations. This iconic event takes place in Liberty City and draws thousands of participants and spectators each year.

MLK Day Parade

The 48th Annual MLK Day Parade kicks off at 11 a.m., spanning eight miles along Northwest 54th Street, from 10th to 32nd Avenues. The route follows paths Dr. King himself walked during his visits to Miami, celebrating his impact on civil rights and unity. Parade highlights include:

  • High-school marching bands, dance and drill teams.
  • Floats, fire trucks, and appearances by local leaders and activists.

Miami’s parade is among the oldest and largest in the U.S., with past events attracting over 500,000 attendees.

Family Festival at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park

Following the parade, the celebration continues at Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Park from noon to 5 p.m. This family-friendly festival showcases Miami’s rich African and Caribbean heritage with:

  • Live Music & Performances: R&B, reggae, jazz, hip-hop, and more at the Jamz Mainstage.
  • Cultural Programming: Theater, art exhibits, and dance on the Cultural Stage.
  • Children’s Village: Interactive games, sports, and arts projects celebrating Dr. King’s legacy.
  • Food Corner: Enjoy soul food, Caribbean dishes, African specialties, and more.
