Yummy Hits Pure Miami
Y’all, it’s 2025, and somehow we’re talking about measles again. Miami-Dade County Public Schools just confirmed a measles case at one of its high schools, making Florida the latest state to join the growing list of places dealing with this highly contagious disease.
ICYMI, measles has been spreading across at least 10 states, including Texas, where a major outbreak has hit 146+ cases, and tragically, one unvaccinated child passed away.
Dr. Somani (a health expert who actually knows what they’re talking about) says a lot of kids either aren’t getting vaccinated or aren’t fully vaccinated, which leaves more people at risk.
But don’t panic—if you got your two-dose measles vaccine, you should be good. If not, now’s literally the best time to get that shot. If you’ve been exposed, you have about three days to get vaccinated, which could help prevent infection or at least make it less severe.
Last year, measles cases popped up at a South Florida school, with about six cases reported at Manatee Bay Elementary in Broward County.
Bottom line? Measles is preventable, but only if people get vaccinated. Stay safe, Miami. 💉✨
