For years, Walmart shoppers have had one major question at checkout: Why doesn’t Walmart take Apple Pay?
That could finally be changing.
Beginning August 24, Walmart is reportedly rolling out tap to pay, including support for Apple Pay and Google Pay, giving shoppers more contactless payment options in stores.
The change would be a major shift for the retail giant, which has historically pushed customers toward Walmart Pay through the Walmart app instead of supporting popular mobile wallets like Apple Pay.
With tap to pay, customers can simply hold a compatible iPhone, Apple Watch, Android phone or contactless credit card near the payment terminal instead of inserting or swiping a card.
For Apple users, the addition of Apple Pay could make Walmart checkout significantly faster, while Android users would gain the ability to pay using Google Pay.
The rollout beginning August 24 also means availability could vary by Walmart location as stores update their checkout systems.
So if you’ve ever searched “Does Walmart take Apple Pay?” the answer may finally be changing.
