Miami-Dade is making it a little easier for residents to hit the streets again. This week, the county launched Operation Green Light, a new program designed to help people with suspended driver’s licenses settle overdue fines and cut down on fees.

The program was announced Monday by Clerk Juan Fernandez-Barquin and is aimed at getting eligible residents’ licenses reinstated. Participants could save up to 30% on select fines, with collection fees waived in some cases — basically, a glow-up for your driving record.

Miami-Dade has roughly 600,000 suspended licenses, with 63% due to unpaid fines and 31% from missed court appearances. Operation Green Light is part of a statewide push to reduce suspensions for non-criminal offenses, giving residents a limited window to get caught up and back behind the wheel.

Local officials are backing the initiative, including Judge Kristy Nuñez, Tax Collector Dariel Fernandez, Commissioner Micky Steinberg, Councilwoman Linda Julien, and NAACP President Daniella Pierre. The program highlights the county’s effort to help drivers reclaim their independence while easing the strain of fines and fees.

Miami drivers, it’s time to get your green light — literally.
