Veterans Day Cold Snap Hits South Florida, Sending Temperatures Plummeting

South Florida experienced a significant drop in temperatures on Veterans Day as a cold front swept across the Sunshine State, ushering in the coldest air of the season so far.

Early Tuesday morning saw temperatures tumble into the upper 40s and low 50s. Despite the chill, the sunny weather drew people out, some even sporting shorts, for walks along Fort Lauderdale Beach.

Temperature Breakdown

• Broward County felt the sharpest drop, with parts of the county not cracking 50°F as late as 7 a.m. By 8 a.m., readings included:

  • 47°F: Coral Springs, Weston

  • 48°F: Davie, Hollywood

  • 49°F: Lauderdale-By-The-Sea, Pembroke Pines, Pompano Beach

• Miami-Dade County largely stayed in the low 50s, though some areas hit the 40s:

  • 49°F: Coconut Grove, Doral, Miami Shores, North Miami, South Miami

  • 50°F: City of Miami, Miami Beach, Miami Lakes, Opa-locka, Sunny Isles Beach

• The Florida Keys remained in the mid-to-high 50s through the morning.

Temperatures quickly recovered, rising to the low 60s by noon, but the region is not expected to climb much higher than the mid-60s into Tuesday evening. Residents were advised to dress in layers throughout the day.

The cold snap is temporary; South Florida is forecast to return to the 80s by the weekend.
