Yummy Hits Pure Miami
todayDecember 18, 2025
Florida’s cruise-port rivalry just hit a new wave.
In a major shakeup for the cruise industry, Port Canaveral has officially overtaken PortMiami to become the world’s busiest cruise port in 2025. The Space Coast powerhouse logged a record-breaking 8.6 million cruise-passenger movements this fiscal year, edging out Miami by a slim but historic margin.
For years, PortMiami held the crown as the global cruise capital. Now, that title has sailed north. Port Canaveral recorded 8,602,047 passenger movements in fiscal 2025, marking roughly a 13 percent increase compared to 2024 and setting a new all-time record for the port. The growth reflects expanding demand for cruises and Canaveral’s rapid investment in infrastructure and capacity. The port now home-ports 18 cruise ships across multiple major cruise lines and handles more than 1,000 sailings every year, turning it into a nonstop engine for cruise travel.
PortMiami, meanwhile, still posted impressive numbers of its own, welcoming 8,564,225 passenger movements in 2025. Despite the strong showing, it narrowly missed reclaiming the top spot, proving just how tight Florida’s cruise competition has become.
The shift highlights a broader evolution in the cruise industry. Increased passenger demand, larger ships, and expanded terminals at Port Canaveral have helped fuel its rise. At the same time, cruise lines appear increasingly willing to spread capacity beyond traditional hubs, reshaping long-standing travel patterns.
This milestone may signal a new era for Florida’s cruise-port rivalry, with both ports continuing to grow, compete, and redefine what it means to be a global cruise gateway.
So here’s the question
If you were booking a cruise, would you choose a port that’s booming right now, or stick with the long-time favorite that built the legacy?
