Chappell Roan, one of the year’s breakout music stars, is making headlines not just for her rising fame, but also for addressing a troubling aspect of celebrity life: the invasion of privacy and harassment from fans. In two recent TikTok videos, the 26-year-old artist has spoken out against the “creepy behavior” she has endured, including cyberbullying, stalking, and invasive requests for photos.

In her first video, Roan challenges her audience to consider their actions from a different perspective. “If you saw a random woman on the street, would you yell at her from your car window? Would you harass her in public? Would you go up to a random lady and ask, ‘Can I take a photo with you?’ and when she says ‘No, what the f**k?’ would you then get mad at her?” she asks.

She continues, urging her viewers to reflect on their behavior: “Would you be offended if she says no to your time because she has her own time? Would you stalk her family? Would you follow her around? Would you try to dissect her life and bully her online? This is a lady you don’t know, and she doesn’t know you at all. Would you assume she’s a good person, assume she’s a bad person? Would you believe everything you read online about her? I’m a random b**ch, you’re a random b**ch. Just think about that for a second, OK?”

In a second video, Roan lays down a clear code of conduct, emphasizing that such toxic behavior is unacceptable, regardless of the level of fame. “I don’t care that abuse and harassment are considered normal for people who are famous or even a little famous,” she states. “I don’t care that it’s normal. I don’t care that this crazy behavior comes with the job, the career field I’ve chosen. That does not make it OK.”

Roan further explains, “It’s strange how people assume they know you just because they see you online and listen to the art you create. I’m allowed to say no to creepy behavior. Being a singer doesn’t mean I want it, and it doesn’t mean I like it. I don’t care if you think it’s selfish of me to say no to a photo, your time, or a hug. That’s not normal—it’s weird.”

Roan’s stance on this issue resonates with recent sentiments shared by other artists. Last month, Halsey opened up about her struggles with lupus SLE and expressed regret over returning to music due to the harsh treatment from some fans. Halsey revealed she wanted to “crawl in a hole” because of the awful behavior directed toward her.

As Chappell Roan continues to rise in prominence, her call for respect and understanding serves as a crucial reminder that celebrities, like all individuals, deserve their privacy and should be treated with decency and consideration.
