Okay, Florida — things are getting real interesting in the classroom. A new proposal could soon require every public school teacher in the state to take a literal oath before they start teaching. Yep, not a metaphorical “I promise to do my best,” but a written “Oath of Allegiance” swearing to uphold both the U.S. and Florida constitutions.

The bill, called the Teachers Oath Act (HB 147), was introduced by Rep. Tom Fabricio (R–Miami Lakes). The idea? According to Fabricio, it’s about “reinforcing civic values” and reminding educators of their responsibility to the rule of law — kinda like how public officials have to swear in before taking office.

🏛️ Here’s the breakdown:
• Teachers would be legally required to sign the oath before entering the classroom.
• Supporters of the bill say it’s about unity, patriotism, and making sure the people shaping young minds understand their civic duty.
• Critics, though, aren’t having it. They say it’s unnecessary, performative, and could open the door for political pressure or ideological litmus tests in schools.

The proposal’s timing also has some people side-eyeing it — especially with ongoing debates around what teachers can and can’t say in Florida classrooms (remember the bans, book pulls, and curriculum restrictions?). Many see this as another layer in the state’s already intense education politics.

📜 The Teachers Oath Act is currently being reviewed for the 2025 legislative session, and if it passes, it could go into effect as soon as next school year.

So what do you think, Miami? 🇺🇸
Is this a step toward building civic pride — or just another political move that teachers didn’t ask for?
