Florida residents are facing another round of dangerous heat as a Heat Advisory remains in effect across parts of South Florida, with forecasters warning that heat index values could climb as high as 110 degrees this week.
The National Weather Service has issued a Heat Advisory for Broward and Miami-Dade counties through 6 p.m. as temperatures in the low-to-mid 90s combine with extreme humidity to create potentially dangerous conditions. While actual temperatures may not seem unusual for June, the humidity will make it feel significantly hotter.
Meteorologists say South Florida could experience similar conditions throughout the week, raising the possibility of additional heat advisories as the combination of high temperatures and tropical moisture continues.
Adding to the concern, an Air Quality Alert was issued for Broward County due to smoke from a wildfire near Doral. Officials reported air quality reaching “unhealthy” levels during the morning hours, though conditions are expected to improve as the smoke lifts later in the day.
Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated, limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, and check on vulnerable family members and neighbors. Officials are also reminding Floridians never to leave children or pets unattended inside vehicles, where temperatures can quickly become life-threatening.
Relief may arrive later in the day as South Florida thunderstorms develop after 3 p.m. Forecasters expect the strongest storms to form across Broward County and northern Miami-Dade County, while areas farther south, including downtown Miami and the Florida Keys, are likely to remain mostly dry.
With Florida heat advisories, poor air quality, and the potential for strong afternoon storms, it could be a challenging week for residents across the Sunshine State. 🌡️☀️⛈️
