Netflix is gearing up for an eventful 2024! On Thursday, February 1st, the streaming giant offered a glimpse into the exciting content lined up for the year, and in the spotlight is the much-anticipated second season of the hit South Korean series, Squid Game.

The initial sneak peek into the upcoming season is delivered through a gripping 17-second teaser trailer. The teaser features Seong Gi-hun, the main protagonist, strolling through an airport while receiving a tense phone call. As per the English subtitles, the caller warns, “You’ll regret your decision,” to which Seong Gi-hun responds with gravity, “I will find you. No matter what it takes.” This brief but intense preview has set the stage for heightened anticipation among fans eagerly awaiting the return of Squid Game.

Just over two years have passed since Squid Game made its global impact on Netflix, emerging as one of the most significant shows worldwide. In the interim, the series’ creator and director, Hwang Dong-hyuk, has been diligently crafting the highly anticipated new season. Shortly after the show’s debut, Hwang disclosed his ongoing efforts on the next season, stating, “It’s all in my head. I have the basic storyline, the broad plan, so we’re in the brainstorming stages,” in an interview with the Associated Press. Reflecting on the immense success of the first season, he humorously expressed, “I almost feel like it would not make sense to create a season two, and I also feel like there are going to be some fans kind of trying to stalk me where I live and do something to me if I don’t give them a second season, so I’m going to go ahead and say there will be a second season. But as for when, I cannot tell you now. He will come back, he will come back and do something about this world.” The assurance of a second season coupled with Hwang’s intriguing insights into the creative process heighten the anticipation for what lies ahead in the Squid Game universe.
