So, Barry Keoghan is finally clapping back at all the comments calling him a ādeadbeat dadā since he started dating Sabrina Carpenter. Yep, the rumors have been flying, and Barry decided to address it head-on during a podcast episode that just dropped today. Hereās what he had to say:
āPeople kind of have a judgment on me as a parent, and I’m like, well, until you’ve walked a day in my shoes growing up as a kid, then you can comment,” Barry shared, not holding back. “Thereās a lot online I didnāt have. If I didnāt have tough skin or the strength, I wouldnāt be sitting here. Of course, it’s going to affect me being a father. When I had no blueprint to take from, people just read that as laziness and go, āOh, thatās no excuse for being an absent father.ā But Iām not an absent father.ā
Barry went on to explain that as heās gotten more attention (especially since dating Sabrina), heās chosen to keep his son out of the spotlight, and heās done it with intention. āThe more attention I’ve gotten lately and the more in the public Iāve become, the less I post about my child because I donāt think itās fair to put my child online. There are sick people out there,ā he said. āBecause I reign that in, people draw narratives and go, āabsent father,ā ādeadbeat dad,ā and more disgusting things I wonāt even repeat. The audacity of some people, man. It sickens me. It makes me furious.ā
Before all this, Barry used to post with his son pretty often. But as his fame skyrocketed, he decided to pull back on sharing those moments. The media and fans were quick to jump to conclusions, assuming he was, like, distancing himself from his sonāespecially with all eyes on his relationship with Sabrina. But from what heās saying, itās the complete opposite. Heās protecting his son by not putting him out there.
Theyāve been dating for about eight months now, and in that time, Barryās social media approach has changed. I mean, heās choosing privacy, and honestly, itās his right as a parent. Some people just take whateverās online, run with it, and build this narrative without knowing the whole picture. Itās a tough call because fans want a peek, but at the end of the day, itās his family and his choice.
