In a powerful new interview, Louis Tomlinson has publicly slammed influencer Logan Paul, vowing to “forever despise” him over the controversial 2022 podcast interview with his late One Direction bandmate, Liam Payne. T
he initial friction stems from Payne’s appearance on Paul’s ‘Impaulsive‘ podcast in late May 2022. During the chat, the “Strip That Down” singer made several divisive comments about his time in One Direction and his former bandmates, which drew significant fan backlash.
While Payne later issued an apology and clarified a comment about Zayn Malik—noting the “Pillowtalk” hitmaker would “always be my brother”—the consequences of the interview had a profound effect on his life. In a YouTube video posted in July 2023, Payne revealed the interview, among other challenging experiences, had led him to sign up for a 100-day sobriety treatment programme.
Speaking to The Independent over the weekend, Tomlinson, 33, sharply criticised Paul, alleging the influencer took advantage of a vulnerable person for content. “I f**king forever despise [Logan Paul], horrible, horrible little f**ker,” Tomlinson told the outlet. “I think that’s also the problem with some of this new ‘media’… I would like to think most journalists – some journalists – have a duty of care.”
Though Payne was widely criticised for claiming he was the “leader” of One Direction during the podcast, Tomlinson defended the assertion, confirming the role was unofficially assigned to him.
“It was, definitely. It was definitely a role that was assigned to him. That is the truth,” Tomlinson continued. “In between him playing that role and also doing a huge chunk of the songwriting… it’s not even up for debate.”
Representatives for Logan Paul have yet to comment on Tomlinson’s criticism
