South Florida travelers are getting a major boost in options this spring as Spirit Airlines prepares to ramp up its nonstop service from both Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport and Miami International Airport. Starting March 12, 2026, the Dania Beach-based carrier is expanding its footprint across the United States, the Caribbean, and Latin America, perfectly timed for the peak spring break and summer escape seasons.

Fort Lauderdale is set to receive the most significant expansion, with the airline adding or increasing service to 13 different destinations. International travelers will see a major increase in connectivity to Mexico, as Spirit moves to twice-daily flights for its popular Cancún route. The Caribbean and Latin America are also getting a “double-daily” boost, with San Juan, Santo Domingo, and Santiago all seeing their frequencies jump to two flights per day. Domestically, the airline is adding more flights to a wide variety of cities including Los Angeles, Austin, Pittsburgh, Raleigh, Charleston, Kansas City, and even the recently added Key West route.

Miami travelers are also seeing an upgrade in service as Spirit doubles down on two of its most high-demand routes from MIA. The airline is introducing twice-daily service to both Chicago and Detroit, providing more flexibility for those heading to the Midwest or welcoming visitors escaping the tail end of northern winters. This strategic move at Miami International Airport highlights Spirit’s continued effort to capture a larger share of the busy South Florida market.

The timing of this expansion aligns with a strong operational streak for the airline, which was recently ranked among the top three North American carriers for on-time performance by aviation analytics firm Cirium. With all 15 new and expanded routes already available for booking, Spirit is positioning itself as a primary choice for Florida residents looking for affordable, high-frequency travel options this spring and beyond.
