That empty Toys “R” Us building in Kendall is finally getting a new tenant and it’s a big one.

Tesla is officially moving into the former retail space at 8789 SW 117th Ave, right across from the Palms at Town & Country. The location has been vacant since 2018, and now it’s being transformed into one of the largest Tesla facilities in Florida.

And it’s not just a showroom.

The space is about 45,000 square feet and will function as a full EV hub, including a showroom, test drive area, service center, and customer lounge. It’s designed to handle everything in one place, from browsing and buying to maintenance and support.

The location also makes sense.

It sits right near the Kendall Drive exit off Florida’s Turnpike, which makes it easily accessible for a large part of Miami-Dade.

Construction is already underway, with the project expected to open in late 2026.

For Kendall, it’s a noticeable shift for a building that’s been sitting empty for years. And for Tesla, it’s another step in expanding its presence across South Florida.

Either way, that corner is about to look very different.
